➡One of the most well-known and esteemed developers in the video game industry, Vince Zampella, passed away this past Sunday following a deadly vehicle accident.
➡Vince Zampella’s family and loved ones have received condolences and expressions of sympathy from game creators, players, and everyone else in the video game business since the news didn’t break until yesterday.
➡In every aspect, Zampella was a titan of the contemporary video game business. He left an incalculable legacy and impact on video games and the contemporary video game business as a co-founder of Infinity Ward and a co-creator of Call of Duty, but the people who knew and worked with him will remember his influence on their own lives the most.
➡ Bowling, a game creator and current studio leader at Weatherfoot LLC, shares one of the stories. He composed music for Call of Duty 2, 4, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3. The heartfelt statement he posted on his personal LinkedIn account is a beautiful illustration of Zampella’s personality.
➡ “When I was at the bottom, he would find a way to nestle up next to me and provide the ladder to climb up, protecting me and saving me from tragedy.” My father requested me to stay at his house after he passed away because he understood that I needed a shoulder and a place to express my sorrow. He paid for my dad’s whole funeral (with full military honors) in secret. Vince was the first person to text me to check on me whenever something happened in my life.
➡Bowling continues by saying that he and “everyone he [Zampella] ever met had countless stories like this, full of unfiltered kindness, understanding, and generosity,” and it’s evident from a cursory glance at the post’s comments that he wasn’t lying. A more humorous story of Zampella pretending to question a coworker about a hiring choice and then letting him in on the joke can be found just below his.
➡He was a wickedly creative creator whose honesty, grounded approach, and acute perspective made everyone around him better, according to Laura Miele, president of EA’s Entertainment division and one of the key executives who worked closely with Zampella. Vince was a close buddy of mine who provided me with positive challenges, increased the significance of my work, and made it much more enjoyable. In addition to his outstanding career history, he was an amazing father, which is something I greatly respected about him. I shall miss him more than words can express how much I loved him.
➡Regarding Zampella, Respawn UI/UX designer Jordan DeVries, who worked on the Star Wars Jedi franchise, stated, “As a creative, he had my two favorite qualities: he always had an opinion, and he always gave it to you straight.” Without what Vince created, I wouldn’t be able to work on video games, much less Star Wars games. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and those that knew him the best.
➡ Additionally, Hideo Kojima related his own tale about Zampella, giving some insight into their friendship and how Zampella contacted Kojima as he was beginning his own road toward independence and creating Kojima Productions.
➡ “I first got to know Vince when he was working with Jason on ‘COD: MW2’ at Infinity Ward. Vince founded Respawn after they were ejected from Infinity Ward. He listened to me, gave me advice, and helped me in many ways when I was getting ready to become independent, possibly because he thought our circumstances were comparable. He even gave me a tour of the studio. Every time I traveled to Los Angeles, we would eat together and discuss our individual destinies, even after he relocated to DICE. To be honest, I’m at a loss for words. It’s much too early. This is devastating. Vince, R.I.P.
➡ ”I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Vince Zampella,” added Katsuhiro Harada. With his vision, leadership, and dedication to quality, he was a creative who transformed contemporary gaming and had a lasting impression on the sector. His work influenced numerous developers across genres and established new benchmarks for competitive play and player experience. Harada went on to claim that even while he was trying to create his own games, he would find himself spending hours at night playing the games Zampella worked on. “Proof of how compelling and inspiring his work truly was.”
➡While most people knew him as the co-creator of Call of Duty and head of Respawn, I had the great fortune of also witnessing his particular brand of leadership, which often included standing up for what he believed in over politics and protecting his people,” said Alex Frostwolf, a community lead on the upcoming multiplayer game Highguard who previously worked on Apex Legends and Overwatch. The epitome of a legend, if I’ve ever seen one. This tragedy has caused a great loss for the industry. His family has my deepest sympathies and affection. Vince, thank you so much for everything.
➡These are only a few of the texts that have been circulated since Zampella’s death was announced. It’s obvious that the video game industry will not fully recover from his passing and that it is now worse off without him. We send his family and loved ones our sincere sympathies.
