When Allah loves you, He tests you. This is a sentence that is easy to say but very hard to understand when you are in pain.
Most of us think that if Allah loves us, our life should be perfect. We should have no sadness, no heartbreak, no financial problems, no loneliness. But the reality of a believer's life is completely different. In fact, the more Allah loves you, the more He will test you.
Allah says in the Quran:
"Do the people think that they will be left to say, 'We believe' and they will not be tried?" (Quran 29:2)
And in another place:
"And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient." (Quran 2:155)
So tests are not a punishment. Tests are a part of faith.
Why Does Allah Test Those he Loves?
There are many wisdoms behind tests. Let me share the most beautiful ones with you.
1. To Purify Your Heart:
Think of gold. How is gold purified? It is put into fire. The fire burns away all the impurities and only pure gold remains. Similarly, our hearts have impurities like pride, love of dunya, dependence on people, jealousy, and heedlessness. Allah tests us to burn away these impurities. After the test, your heart becomes cleaner, softer, and closer to Allah.
2. To Bring You Closer To Him:
When we are happy and comfortable, we often forget Allah. We get busy in our work, our friends, our phone. We pray quickly and we don't make deep duas. But when we are in pain, when no one is there to help us, what do we do? We raise our hands. We cry in sujood. We call "Ya Allah" from the depth of our heart. And Allah loves that call. He loves that moment when you break in front of Him. Your tears in front of Allah are never wasted.
3. To Elevate Your Status in Jannah:
Sometimes Allah wants to give you a very high rank in Jannah. But your good deeds are not enough to reach that rank. So what does Allah do? He tests you with hardship. If you remain patient, you get the reward of patience, and that reward takes you to that high rank. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that."
4. To Make You Realize This Dunya is Temporary:
Tests remind us that this dunya is not our final home. If everything was perfect here, we would never want to go to Jannah. Heartbreaks, betrayals, and losses teach us that only Allah is permanent. People will leave, wealth will come and go, but Allah will always remain.
Look at the lives of those Allah loved the most.
Prophet Ayyub (A.S) - He lost his health, his wealth, his children. For years he was sick and alone. Was Allah angry with him? No, he was one of the most beloved Prophets.
Prophet Yusuf (A.S) - He was thrown into a well by his own brothers, sold as a slave, falsely accused and put in prison for years. Was he unloved? No, Allah made him the king of Egypt afterwards.
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) - He lost his father before he was born, his mother at age 6, his beloved wife Khadija, his uncle Abu Talib, and his children. He faced stones in Taif, hunger, and rejection. Was he not loved by Allah? He was Habibullah, the most beloved.
So your pain is not a sign that Allah has left you. It is a sign that you are on the path of the beloved ones.
What Should You Do When Allah Tests You?
First, do not complain to people. Complain only to Allah. People cannot solve your problems. They can only gossip about them. But Allah can change your entire situation in a second.
Second, make Sabr and Salat your tools. Allah says: "O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient." (2:153)
Sabr does not mean you don't cry. Sabr means you cry only in front of Allah. You feel the pain, but you don't question Allah's wisdom. You say "Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un" - Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.
Third, always have Husn-e-Zan, good expectation from Allah. The Prophet said Allah says: "I am as my servant thinks of Me." If you think Allah will help you, He will help you. If you think Allah will abandon you, Shaitan will make you feel abandoned. So always think positively about Allah.
My dear sister, if you are reading this and you are sitting alone, feeling that no one understands your pain, feeling that everyone has plotted against you, feeling that all doors are closed, remember this: Allah is with you.

The door of Allah is never closed. People may close their doors on you, but Allah's door is always open. People may plot against you, but Allah is planning for you. Your current chapter is not your final chapter.
This pain will end. This loneliness will end. Just like after a very dark night, there is a bright morning. Allah will heal your broken heart. He is Al-Jabbar, the One who mends broken hearts.
So tonight, make wudu, go to a quiet corner, and talk to Allah. Tell Him everything. Tell Him how tired you are. Tell Him how much your heart hurts. And then wait for His help. Because when Allah loves you, He tests you, but when you pass that test with patience, He loves you even more and gives you more than you ever asked for.
May Allah ease all your pain and make your heart content. Ameen.
